FAQs & HELP

Remember. Google is your friend.

1. Where to download files?

2. How to download files?
TimeLesSub normally releases its projects two ways:  Torrent and direct download.

  • Via Torrent – You need to have a torrent client program to be able to download via torrent. Install any torrent client to your computer and load the torrent files that you get from D-Addicts or TimeLesSub website. More information here.
  • Via Direct Download – Get the direct download links provided on our releases page. Follow the file hosting instructions. Some file hosting websites limit their downloads for free users. Please read the file hosting FAQ for more information.

3. What is SD and HD?

  • Standard definition, SD – any video system that has a standard resolution. The most common display resolution used by TimeLesSub for J-Dramas is 703 x 396 pixels. C-Dramas meanwhile depends on the original raws video frame size.
  • High definition, HD – any video system that has a higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video. Most common display resolution used by TimeLesSub is 1280 x 720 pixels.

4. How to watch the files?
You need to have a media player that has compatible codecs to view our video files. Here are few media players that you can use. Install any of these media players and also any of theses codec packs. These software are freeware, so you can download them for free from the Internet.

My downloaded file isn’t playing correctly.  What to do?
First of all, please check if the file you downloaded is corrupted.  To do this, download a CRC hash check program.  After installing your CRC program, check the downloaded file and compare the CRC code that appears in the program to the CRC code provided in the TLS release’s filename.  If your code matches, then there is nothing wrong with the file.  Your problem might lie with your codec or hardware settings.  If your CRC code doesn’t match, however,  then you have to re-download the file again.

6. How does TimeLesSub sub a drama?
Every fansub group has their own way of subbing a drama. The workflow shown below is the general process followed by TimeLesSub, barring any unforeseen difficulties.

    TimeLesSub Japanese Drama Subbing Workflow

Timing –> Translation –> Translation check (if necessary) –> Timing Check –> Editing –> Typesetting –> Quality Check (QC) –> Encoding –> Release

    TimeLesSub Chinese Drama Subbing Workflow

Translation –> Translation check (if necessary) –> Timing –> Editing –> Quality Check (QC) –> Typesetting –> Final Quality Check –> Encoding –> Release

    TimeLesSub Subbing Process

  • Timing – In Japanese dramas, timing is done based on inaudible dialogue (timing without a translation) while in Chinese dramas, it is done the other way round. Subs are to synched with both audio and video
  • Translation – Fill in the blanks of the timed script with the translation.
  • Translation Check – Check for translation errors or missed lines/signs/necessary notes.
  • Timing check – Also known as fine timing. In Japanese drama, timings are adjusted for best readability by the viewer. We check for things like lead in and lead out (extra time added so that the eye can read it),  strobing lines (also known as blinking lines. Duration of one line to next line that’s less than 0.40/0.50 second should be made as continuous lines) and also proper  timing of signs. In Chinese dramas meanwhile, where there are Chinese subs embed with it, timing are done frame by frame so as both English and Chinese subs would begin and end at the same time frame.
  • Editing – Rewrite translations into grammatically correct English sentences without losing the meaning.
  • Typesetting – Set subtitle styles (font type, size and colour combination) and create those fancy moving signs and notes on screen.
  • Quality Check (QC) – Make sure everything  follows TLS subbing rules. In this step, we make sure translation/editing is as accurate as possible, timing follows TLS timing rules and typesetting is readable and consistent. Make sure everything is consistent from episode to episode. QCers can reject the whole script and force it to be redone if he or she finds it unsuitable for release.
  • Encoding – Process of making the script and video into one hardsubbed file. Make sure that everything is correct. No video or audio desync. No major pixelation. If the project leader finds the encoding unsatisfactory then the file must be re-encoded. (FYI, a 45-minute h264 (.mp4) format encoding takes about 7 hours to complete. So yeah, be patient).
  • Release – Release on d-addicts.com and upload to MU. Whichever comes first.

7. How long does it take to sub an episode? When is the next release?
Fansubbing is a hobby, not a job. Duration of each subbing task depends on the assigned staff member’s own schedule and is subject to real-life interruptions and emergencies and computer breakdowns. So be patient. It’ll be released when it’s ready. Nagging, throwing tantrums or anything that comes close to it won’t bring much changes. Sadly however there are still viewers who simply refuse to acknowledge the meaning of REAL LIFE.

8. Can I get softsubs files for TimeLesSub hardsubs projects?
Unless TimeLesSub specifies a softsubs release, we will not give out softsubs to anyone. Fansub groups seeking to use TimeLesSub translations to re-translate into different languages must  contact TimeLesSub admins or project leaders for permission. They are free to use TimeLesSub hardsubs files, but please credit TimeLesSub with original translation on all subtitle files as well as on every page where those subtitles can be downloaded.

9. Can I upload TimeLesSub video files to streaming sites?
No. Whether TimeLesSub is credited or not, we would prefer that our releases not be uploaded to ANY streaming sites.

10. Can I make profit off your subs?
Absolutely NO- NO! All of our fansubbed work is free and not for sale or rent. Making money off of our projects in ANY way is prohibited.
